Why can’t i charge my iPhone by putting it back to back with another iPhone anymore

I used to be able to charge another phone with the back of my iPhone and now i can’t seem to do that. I know the 8 did it and i also thought the 12 did that as well. When did they stop this feature ?

I don't remember wireless charging of other devices ever being a feature of any iPhone.

iPhone 15 series phones have the ability "to charge your AirPods, Apple Watch, or another small device that supports USB Power Delivery at up to 4.5 watts" over USB-C.

No, iPhones released as of today, March 4, 2024, haven't had reverse wireless charging. It's possible that the device you bought underwent some hardware changes by the previous owner, and you might not be aware of them.

There is no information in Apple articles supporting the idea that the iPhone 8 has wireless charging capabilities to charge another phone using the back of your iPhone 8.

I have been using my devices ever since I bought my first device in 2009. iPhone 3Gs, 4S, 5, 6, SE (1st Gen), 7, 8 and iPhone 12 Pro, iPad Pro, iPhone 13, Macbook Air 2019, MacBook Pro 16"

I still have SE (1st Gen), 8 and iPhone 12 Pro, iPad Pro, iPhone 13, and MacBook Pro 16".

None of them have this feature

As far as wireless charging of an iPhone using a power adapter, see:

You need an iPhone 8 or later to charge from a Qi-compliant charger. You need an iPhone 12 or later to benefit from the magnetic alignment and higher charging rate features of a MagSafe charging pad. My understanding is that the iPhone 8 can charge from a MagSafe pad, but

"When charging a non-MagSafe Qi-compatible device with a MagSafe Charger, power is reduced and charge times may be slower than on a typical Qi charger."

ok, i kept searching cause it started to feel like the Mandela effect. I had a 12 and i had a 8 around the same time so i got them confused. The 12 apparently has the hidden feature to charge other devices. Which i used to use often, it was just very slow and would drain the battery like crazy. I thought they all still had it and tried today and it didn’t work.
