Charging port is busted. How do I back up iPhone w/o a cable?

My iPhone 15 Pros charging port will not connect to a cable. Feels loose. I want to back up the phone to my Mac before buying a new iPhone. iCloud says I have to buy more storage which I don't want to do just for one back up. Any other ideas out here?

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 18

Why would I want to buy storage space I'd only use once?

Because if your phone ever dies, gets stolen, falls in water, etc. You will loose all you data on your phone and you will wish you paid for more space to keep your backups.

But the choice is yours, you don't have to pay for iCloud space if you don't want, living on the edge can be exciting too.

If there's any data on the old phone that you value at all – like family photos – that isn't backed up, a month's subscription to iCloud+ would be a very cheap price for rescuing it.

Also, you said "I want to back up the phone to my Mac before buying a new iPhone."

It makes sense to get enough iCloud storage space so that you can

  • Have your new phone automatically back itself up when it is connected to power and Wi-Fi internet service
  • Use iCloud Photos (instead of iCloud backup) to safeguard against the possibility that you will lose access to photos on the new phone for whatever reason (theft, incorrect passcode lockout, new phone run over by a truck)
