Setting Notes widget to “Always Create New Note”

iPhone 14, iOS 16

detailed description of iOS 17 update does not contain enumerated actions upgrades to widgets beyond one example.

The notes widget will only shortcut to a previously created note. I can customize which one(s) but I’m not interested in quick access via widget in any pre-existing notes.

How can I customize the widget to always automatically create a new note? Settings: Notes: Access Notes from Lock Screen: allows for “Always Create New Note”

why not widgets? Why provide customizable shortcuts to saved files within but exclude the most primary function of an app designed for note taking?

britannie ~ In iOS 17 several styles of Notes widgets offer a New Note capability some of which open the special Quick Notes folder ready to add your new note. However, from that folder you could navigate to a different folder to place your new note:

Alternatively, Apple's Shortcuts app offers a "Create note" action which can be triggered from a Shortcuts widget:

I updated to iOS 17, but now realized my assumption above was incorrect and I actually don’t have the option to select or customize a specific note to open to. The only thing it lets me choose from are folders. Even then, if the folder has multiple notes it will cut to the most recent instead of displaying all.

that aside, thank you for your response and suggestions. Hopefully the shortcuts widget will allow me to open a new quick note with one tap
