2012 MacBook running 12.3.1 os what iTunes can I run?

Hello Mac community. I have an old 2012 MacBook, I love it. It's running 12.3.1 os. I want to download iTunes but I what iTunes can I run?

I have tried many different version but when I tried 10.6.3 I got the furtherest along but then got the following error message;

"This package us incompatible with this version macOS. The package is trying to install content to the system volume. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

All other versions of iTunes simply do not allow me to install.

Is there a really basic version of iTunes that I can download?
