Ethernet over Bluetooth PAN-NAP keeps on after disconnecting

Hi everyone!

There's something that is been going on for a couple of months and I still haven't figured out what's going on. I drive a Toyota RAV4 from 2018 which doesn't have CarPlay. I use Bluetooth to connect the car to the internet to help me with navigation and traffic. The thing is, with my old iPhone 14 and also my new iPhone 15 the option "Ethernet" keeps triggered on the main menu on >Settings after turning off my car and leaving it.

I know my car connects over Bluetooth with the PAN-NAP but, if I jump back in the car and ignite it, it can't reconnect to the internet because I believe the iPhone won't let the car connect because this iPhone has still the Ethernet triggered on. Have to 'Soft Reset' my phone and manually reconnect again after restarting the iphone.

Would you want this humble user to have a helping hand and find out what's causing the problem? Thank you so much!

So far I tried Reset Network Settings and unpairing and pairing again.

Would you care this humble user to have a helping hand and find what's causing the problem? Thank you so much!

Dan.

It seems like you're facing an unusual issue with the Ethernet over Bluetooth PAN-NAP on your iPhone and your Toyota RAV4. Since you've already tried resetting network settings and unpairing/pairing again, let's explore some additional steps to troubleshoot this problem:

  1. Check if there are any software updates available for your car's infotainment system. Manufacturers sometimes release updates that address compatibility issues with newer devices.
  2. Ensure that your car's Bluetooth system is fully compatible with the iPhone. Check the car's manual or contact Toyota support for information on Bluetooth compatibility and potential updates. While the problem seems to be on the iPhone side, it's also possible there's a compatibility issue with your car's Bluetooth system. Check your Toyota RAV4's manual for contact information for Toyota's support.
  3. If the issue persists, you can try resetting all settings on your iPhone. This will not erase your data but will reset all personalized settings to their default values. Go to Settings > General > Transfer & Reset > Reset > Reset All Settings and confirm the action. Note that you will need to reconfigure your settings afterward. All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, the Home screen layout, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted.
    1. Reset All Settings: Return iPhone settings to their defaults - Apple Support:- Return iPhone settings to their defaults
    2. You can return settings to their defaults without erasing your content.
    3. If you want to save your settings, back up your iPhone before returning them to their defaults. For example, if you’re trying to solve a problem but returning settings to their defaults doesn’t help, you might want to restore your previous settings from a backup.
  4. Make sure you have the latest updates installed.
    1. Update Over-the-Air (OTA) —> Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support (IN)
    2. Update using iTunes/Finder —> Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support (IN)

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it is recommended to reach out to Apple Support or visit an authorized service center for further assistance. They can provide specific guidance based on your device model and iOS version.

The issue you're describing with the "Ethernet" option triggering on your iPhone after connecting to your car's Bluetooth seems like an unusual glitch.

To improve understanding of the phenomenon, it would be highly beneficial if you could share a screenshot. Visual representations carry greater impact than written descriptions.

Please remember that this is a public forum, so when attaching a screenshot, please avoid including any personal credentials such as IP addresses, card details, email IDs, Apple IDs, IMEI numbers, serial numbers, phone numbers, order IDs, or any identifiable location information if you are sharing a map.

I’m attaching 3 screenshots, those settings used to disappear as soon as I turned off my car and the connection was lost.

But now they won’t. Even I created an automation to try solving the problem but it didn’t work. But it was quite fun to create to save some battery, which is turning off the hotspot as soon as the car’s Bluetooth was disconnected.

thank you for the responses. I’m going to check if Toyota has some new updates to my car infotainment system.
