Unable to download apps to child’s stand-alone Apple Watch. SOLUTION FOUND!
My son and I were continually frustrated by not being able to load apps onto his new Apple Watch SE after he got it. He would choose games he wanted from the App Store. After clicking the download button he was prompted to enter his Apple ID password, then double click the side button to initiate the download. The watch would then kick back into his general settings screen. We tried this over and over and over with the same result. I finally called Apple yesterday and got sent up the chain two levels before we got an answer figured out.
First, his watch is set up on my iPhone. He does not have a companion iPhone.
This problem needs to be fixed on the iPhone that set up the Apple Watch. In Settings>Family>(childs account)>Screen Time>Content & Privacy Restrictions. Toggle “Content & Privacy Restrictions” off (you will be prompted to enter the “parent lock” passcode when toggling either way).
Use the Apple Watch to try downloading the app again. It has worked for us every time.
I toggle it off when he wants to download something new, but keep it toggled on the rest of the time. I’m sure Apple has legitimate reasons for the restrictions and it has unintentionally prevented downloading safe and promoted apps in the App Store. This is just a work around. Hopefully this will help others, as it seems there are a lot of questions
