Missing folders on desktop of my MacBook Pro

Missing folders on desktop. I have no iCloud storage, did iCloud make my files dissappear?

It is likely you have turned on Desktop & Documents Folders to be stored on your iCloud Drive. Not sure for your OS version, but for Sonoma the setting is at  > System Settings > [name on top] > iCloud > iCloud Drive > Desktop & Documents Folder. Shut this switch off and those folders will return to your computer instead of being stored in iCloud.
