What is the Trade In fee for?

Brought Mac Book Air. Noticed there was a Trade-in fee. What is this for?

You originally said “Trade-in fee”. There is no such thing.


Then in your second post you mentioned “Recycle Fee”. There is indeed a recycle fee. It is applied to your new product, not your trade-in. It is mandated by law as described here.

I labeled it incorrectly: My Invoice from yesterday for this purchase is labeled "Recycle Fee". Never mentioned during sales process + when we made a purchase at the Apple Store in T.O a couple of months ago - we also - "after-the-fact" realized we had been charged this 'fee'. Though dollar-wise insubstantial in the scheme of things - it should be so stated that all trade-in's incur the 'mandated feee' - if I presume correctly.
