Showing “read” receipts

why is my phone still showing “read” when messages are received by me. I am running softwear 17.3.1. I had same problem with previous softwear.

iPhone read receipts are toggled off but sending read receipts My iPhone read receipts are turned off but still sending read receipts. I have confirmed that the setting is indeed turned off in the Message on my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. Is there a bug causing the iPhone to ignore my settings? I am using iOS 17.5.1.

Is the “Read” designation showing under messages that are sent by you OR under messages that are received by you on YOUR iPhone? It should be the former and that means that messages that you sent are read by the recipient and the recipient has chosen to send you a read receipt.
