How to save Numbers file as XLSX by default?
Is there a way to get numbers to save .xlsx by default? I know the answer is no but I figured I would ask the question again in case maybe I missed something.

I suppose you could go into System Preferences->Keyboard->Shortcuts->App Shortcuts and make Command S be the shortcut for the menu item "Excel…" for the Numbers app (taking it away from "Save"). Or create a special shortcut for it like Command Option Shift S. I didn't try remapping Command S but I was able to make a shortcut in Numbers 13.1 that brought up the export to Excel process.
You can copy/paste Excel… from here as the menu item name. It needs to be exactly as in the menu system, including the ellipsis character.
If you are going back and forth from Numbers to Excel, I recommend you get Excel or one of the free Office-like suites. Numbers is able to import and export Excel files but it is not perfect and is not meant to be an Excel clone.

No. Numbers saves to Numbers, and exports to Excel.
