Purple Screen, Purple Line, Purple Hue, Front Camera iPhone 14 Pro Max

Hello all,

[1 Month Ago] So recently my iPhone 14 Pro Max developed a vertical purple line down the screen and purple hue around the edges only when using the front facing camera in low light conditions (dark room). Once outside in natural light the purple hue and line was less noticeable in pictures however was still present. I could live with it since my phone would still accept my front facing biometric security scan for banking apps (front camera allowed only).

[1 Month Later, Present] My front camera has broken completely overnight some how. In low light conditions it’s just pitch black and in natural lighting conditions outside it’s all purple (see images). My banking app no longer recognizes my face since it’s all purple.

This is incredibly frustrating as my FaceID and back Camera still works perfectly fine, I can still scan my face (add new face to face id) I just can’t see myself in the preview of scanning, it’s black.

I have attempted to factory reset my iPhone and reset all settings back to default however the front camera is still messed up. Software is up to date 17.4, I have removed my screen protector and case however no impact. Disabled location services and played around with the camera settings in settings app.

I do believe this is a Hardware issue with the front camera lidar sensor, if so does anyone have a rough estimate in GBP how much these cost to repair?

Will the whole front camera unit need replacing?

I brought this from the Apple Store on its release month so my warranty has expired. Furthermore, no I haven’t had any expose to lasers in a nightclub or shopping center this happened one day randomly.

Any feedback or comments are encouraged and would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Alex

Here are a few suggestions and insights:

  1. It's advisable to take your iPhone to an authorized Apple service provider or an Apple Store for a professional assessment. They can run diagnostics and provide you with a more accurate diagnosis and a repair estimate.
  2. The cost of repairing or replacing the front camera will depend on the specific issue and the region you're in. Apple typically provides a service cost estimate after its assessment.
  3. Depending on the nature of the issue, the entire front camera unit may need replacement. The professionals at the service center will be able to determine this after examining your device.

Remember to back up your data before taking your device for repair, as the process may involve resetting or replacing components.
