Cant add widgets to desktop

I have a macbook air, macOS monterey version 12.7.3 , i dont know if this version will let me add widgets but I just updated it and it says its up to date. I try adding widgets by going to the notification center and then dragging the widget to my desktop as one of the apple tutorial video describes but it doesnt work. Please help

On macOS Monterey, you can only have widgets in the Notification Center: Add and customize widgets in Notification Center on Mac - Apple Support. This means that you'd need to swipe left from the right side of the trackpad to see them.


On the other hand, in macOS Sonoma, you can have widgets always visible on your screen. Your macBook Air would have to be a 2018 model (or later) to be able to use masOS Sonoma. You can check the year of your Mac by clicking  > About This Mac.
