Using Apple Gift Cards is fine, you can pay for almost all Apple Services using your Apple ID balance.

I use Apple Gift Cards all the time, the credit card is just a backup, in case I forgot to redeem another Gift Card in time. You can also buy hardware from the Apple Online Store, using Apple Gift Cards.
