I can't import media in Final Cut Pro

Several times it happened that importing clips to library fails.

First time I deleted file from Originals folder and then wanted to import again — fails.

Second time I saw missing clip in Clips and deleted in app, and I can't import it again. There was imported file in Originals, I tried to move it to another location, rename and reimport — fails.

It seems like library thinks that file is already there or smth like that. Can I force to rescan library somehow to renew clips available? Rebuild doesn't help.

What "Originals" folder are you talking about? Are you digging inside the Library package? You can't do it that way, you're messing up FCPX's database that way. NEVER delete or move files that way, always do it inside of FCPX's Browser.

Also, if that file is in use in a Timeline anywhere, it won't be totally deleted inside FCPX until all instances of it are removed from everywhere, not just the master file in the Browser.

ОК. But it was deleted before, inside FCPX (the second part in my first post). And no project was using it.

After I imported this clip into another event I moved it to this event from there, and that's worked — now I see clip among other source clips.

Is the clip in one of the projects in the event? If you’ve copied or moved projects around you can have projects in events with no clips on the event. The same clips won’t import if they’re already in the library.

You can have the same clip in more than one event, and you can import the same clip into more than one event. You just can't import the same clip in the same event in which the clip exists.

1) Yes, Original Media in library

For years I used to delete originals there and that worked fine for me.

2) Although now I deleted source clip inside FCPX and it doesn't removed clip from Original Media folder.

I see file file browser, folders with my AVCHD, which correctly interpretated as Clip #1 etc.

If I select Clip, I see its preview.

Everyhing absolutely the same as ever before, just one difference: when I click "Inport selected", import window closes and nothing happens.

I guess library thinks the clip is already there.

Nothing special in it's name (this event is several years old).

Several projects and several clips are there (also as usual).

I used to keep 1-3 projects in event as templates, that's why I always deleted original files — it's ok to see red 'missing file' to replace it with another video. It always worked fine that way (10 years or so), but this library corruption I started to experience with some update I guess.
