SOS on new iPhone pro max

why do I have SOS on my iPhone pro max? I just started/setup new phone and this is what I have. What does it mean and how is it fixed? Verizon store assistant said not to worry, but?

First make sure you are updated to iOS 17.4. If you still have the problem, then you will most likely need go back to Verizon and activate a new SIM/ESIM. It is odd they told you not to worry about it since it means you are unable to connect to their network that you are paying for.

If you see No Service or Searching in the status bar on your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular), your device isn't connected to a mobile network. If you see SOS or "SOS only" in the status bar, your device can still make emergency calls.
