CORRUPTED FILE ??? Blanks in Timeline, Export errors, Glitchy playback, Green Blocks

Three weeks ago I completed a Multicam video and exported it as a .MOV as well as an .mp4 file.

The exports worked fine and all was good with the project file.

Yesterday I opened the FCPX project file to export another copy, and its corrupted, or something...

I did not open or use FCPX or open the file for the past three weeks since I last used it. Was on vacation.

Now I get serious playback issues such as:

BLANK SECTIONS in timeline

GREEN BLOCKS in the timeline

NO VIDEO PLAYBACK in viewer when video image shows in timeline clip

EXPORT ERRORS at various frame locations throughout

AUDIO TRACK (.WAV file) had huge blast of static for two seconds (showed RED) in timeline

PLAYBACK is slow, jerky and looks like intermittent static

I've tried deleting cashe and rendered files but that didnt help.

The "errors" seem show up at random locations.

I've replaced the .WAV file, so that issue is gone.

I'm using an M1 Mac Mini running Ventura 13.6.3

The HD is only half full

The FCX Library I'm using is stored on an external USB 3.0 SSD drive

FCPX version 10.7.1 was purchased and downloaded in December 23

The last FCPX update was installed yesterday, but that didnt help

It's like my machine is suddenly having GPU/video problems.

The images don't populate in the timeline unless I change the viewing size, then they show up

Otherwise some of the clip just show as BLACK or only a few frames in each clip (image #1)

I'm completely out of ideas and don't have know how/why this could have happened.

PLEASE HELP... Thanx

Whenever the application crashes you should trash the settings. Hold ⌥ ⌘ as you double click the library you want to open to launch the application. A dialog appears asking you if you want to Delete Preferences. If you don't do this while double-clicking your library, just opening the application, it will open a default Untitled  library.

In FCP in library properties check the storage location of the cache. It’s probably in the library. Change the location to same location as the library. The cache will appear with the same name as the library, immediately adjacent to it. Once this is completely. You can quit the library and throw the cache bundle into the trash. When you reopen the library the cache will be rebuilt including creating new filmstrips for the clips. Give it some time to do this, a couple of minutes should get it started. The application with generate new filmstrips and waveforms as you open elements in the application.

See the cache to the same location as the library. Not to In Library. Set it to the Elite Mini Drive or whatever folder the library is in. That will move the cache to that location. You can then quit the application and trash the cache. When you reopen the library the cache files will be deleted. Make sure your FCP settings have background rendering switched off. Leave background rendering off.

They’re not called Preferences any longer. To match the system language, which has been adopted from iOS, they’re now called Settings. Yes, use the Delete button.

In FCP select the library in the Browser pane. The library properties will appear in the Inspector. You should see a modify button that lets you make changes to the default settings, formerly preferences.

You have a project selected not the library. It will look like this:

Tom first off, THANK YOU very very much for helping me.

I'm VERY NEW to using FCP so please understand that...

I've tried your first suggestion: Hold ⌥ ⌘

When I do this I get THIS dialog box:

It doesnt mention Delete Preferences...

Your SECOND suggestion: FCP in library properties check the storage location of the cache

I'm not sure how to bring up the properties

I "right click" on the Library I'm using and this is what I see

Inside "Show Package Contents" is this:

I thought I had deleted all of the RENDER FILES.

Should I do this?

Hi Tom:

I want to try and delete the CACHE as you recommended.

The cache location is the same location as the Library that I'm using.

The location and size of the cache is verified by the Library Properties.

The Library is stored on my USB 3.0 Elite Mini drive.

Can you walk me thru how to delete the cache...

I tried following what you said above, but got lost.

thanx

I was able to "trash the cache" but unfortunately problems still exist.

I've tried to isolate issues as much a s possible.

So I did notice something very specific.

When my Multicam Clip is open, I played back each clip.

There are 14 video clips and 1 audio track.

9 of the video clips that have playback issues are .mxf files.

5 are .mp4 and they playback fine.

In FCPX settings I have "optimized media for multicam clips" checked.

Any other ideas?

thanx
