At the moment I do not have a debt or credit card so how can I download or update new apps or apps that I have that are free without asking for card information. I never had a problem before now all of a sudden I have to add a card?

Apple generally requires a valid payment method be added to the Apple ID in order to make use the iTunes and App Store services. It can normally be avoided if there are no pending payment or active subscriptions on the account.
The fact its requiring one now means there is some charge or subscription that requires it now on your account. Once that happens, you must add a verifiable payment method to your account. no way around it now.
Once the pending charge or active subscription has been correctly charged, you can request a refund, and then remove payment method from your Apple ID and it should not ask for it again unless a charge cannot be completed for any reason.

Did this just start happening when you tried downloading a new app? It may be that that app triggered something. I can update all my apps all the time with no payment method, but I don't really use any that have any purchases associated with them, and certainly no subscriptions.
Yes it just started I cancelled my card cause I’m getting a new one in the mail . Apps that I have like games or social medias can’t even be updated because of that. Hopefully when I add my new card it won’t give me a hard time anymore. Thank you for your reso!
Ooh I see, yeah I had to cancel my last card and getting a new one in the mail I do have Netflix and YouTube that I do need to pay for so it make sense on what your saying. Thank you for the info!
