iMac Flower Pot

Hello, I have one of those Flower Pot iMacs. Does anyone know whats the latest version of OSX that can be installed on it? I got it from a school that was throwing them away and i figured i would try and re-install OSX but didn't know the highest level i can install. Would Tiger be okay to install on it? And can the RAM be upgraded?

Mac book pro, Dell, iMac 27", iPhone, iPad, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Tiger (10.4) works fine on any G4 iMac. To install Leopard (10.5), your iMac must have at least a 1.0 Ghz processor. The current Mac OS (10.6) will not work on any "G" series Mac.

RAM can be upgraded but the max depends on the model. Later G4 iMacs can theoretically hold 2G RAM but one of the RAM slots is not considered user-serviceable. There is a user-serviceable RAM slot on the bottom of the domed base.

Is there an OS on the computer ow? Is so, you can use software to tell you which model you have and how much RAM is currently installed.

First, are the Tiger disks full retail install (Black)? Grey system disks form another Mac may not work.

But before doing anything, run System Profiler (Do "About this Mac..." from the Apple menu, then click "more Info..." in the resulting window). Paste everything under "Hardware Overview" EXCEPT your serial number into a rsponse to your own thread. Then click on "Memory" in the left pane to se what RAM is installed in what slot.

I believe you need to start the new iMac in TDM with the system DVD installed. The old computer must see the new one as an external drive. Start the old one with the OPTION key pressed and select the DVD from the list of available volumes.
