How to open files through app other than notes on MacBook

You can two-finger tap the file icon and select Open With > to choose from a number of possibly compatible programs.

You can also Control ( Keyboard ) and Click the file

It will provide the same Options to Open With as mentioned by @John Galt

The best way to go about this is just double tap the file you are trying to open. You can also use the 2-finger tap for the menu to show.
