I have finally found the reason for overheating and possibly also for unacceptable battery drain under 17.4.1 for my case (iPhone 13 Pro, 17.4.1). The culprit is "Require Attention for Face ID", "Attention-Aware Features" or perhaps both.

After one day of usage I can confirm that battery life is back to normal levels: about 10% drop in one hour screen-on browsing.

This means about 10 hours browsing time at modest screen brightness from a full charge, which is more or less what I was getting before "upgrading" to 17.4 (17.4.1) with my iPhone 13 Pro (now at at 92% battery health).

With "Require Attention for Face ID" and "Attention-Aware Features" ON, I get instead more than 20% drop per hour of browsing under otherwise the same conditions (connection, position, screen brightness, apps used, etc.)

I have been on the phone with Apple 4 times since I got my new iPhone 15 pro max 4 days ago. The first tech said my HOT battery was always hot the first time you used it. She couldn't wait to hang up the phone. It wasn't the first time, but it was like a firecracker, and I have neuropathy, and it hurt my hands. I was having a host of problems with my new phone, and what a lengthy setup process it was and still is, as it keeps asking me the same things 2-4 times after I have allowed or not allowed things. Does it not retain the answers but keep beating you up? Siri wasn't working right, and then it stopped working at all. Compared to Hey Google, I prefer Google over Siri any day. Siri says Mmm and then, most of the time, she gives me a list to read instead of her knowing things and speaking them out loud. I have visual issues and do not want to sit and read what Siri gives me. Google answers aloud and speaks in detail; why can't Siri, especially when it is a $1,200 phone?!! This is my first iPhone, and I am not thrilled. Also, the Apple reps have not been of much help at all. I thought Apple was the best.....but so far not happy.

My original post was removed, so adding this again here.

Just joined this community due to the battery drain on 2 iPhone SE 2020 (2nd Gen) phones - mine and my partner's.

The latest update has made both phones (A grade - perfect condition, original box, accessories etc) unsellable at CEX due to the battery drain since iOS 17.4 update. My intent was to purchase 2 new iPhones, but understanding this is even affecting the latest models has me very concerned.

Hello

the same applies to me too. Since the update to 17.4,
the battery drains by about 25% overnight in airplane mode.
I have an iPhone 12 mini. All updates.
I always got through the day well.
In desperation, I had the battery replaced at the Apple Store over the weekend.
But the 3 year old battery probably wasn't the problem.
A call to support wasn't very helpful.
The solutions here are very different.
What helps now?
I would like to avoid a complete reset of the cell phone.
Help!
