My mac book toll bar freezes

My drop down bar freezes once it is clicked and I can't select anything from it. For example if I click history options will drop down but I can't select reopen last closed window or tab.

If issue is only with a single app and the app has been open for a long time, try closing the app & relaunching it.


Have you tried restarting the computer?


Try booting into Safe Mode to see if this makes any difference. If this works and a simple restart did not, then it means you have an issue with some third party software installed on your computer. Usual culprits are anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security software. If you have any of these types of apps installed, then uninstall them by following the developer's instructions. These types of apps are not needed on a Mac and usually cause more problems than they solve since they interfere with the normal operation of macOS. If you don't have any of these apps installed, then run the third party app EtreCheck and post the complete report here so we can examine it for clues.
