Audio interface loses connection after Mac Mini M2 sleeps
I've seen many old threads about this, no solutions so far. Any good news?
My computer is a Mac Mini M2 Pro, my audio interface is a M-Track 2x2M (C Series).
MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.6

As a test:
Turn on "Prevent automatic sleeping when display is off" and only allowing the display to turn off.
Then leave the Mac on with display off and shut down for longer times of non-use.
I solved it by not letting my Mac Mini auto-sleep. I'm really curious if this is an issue with the M-Audio M-Track 2X2M (C-Series) only, or if I'll have this issue with any other interface.
There is little to gain by allowing the Mac mini to sleep. The M series machines already use very little energy at idle and sleeping them does invite this sort of misbehavior. This loss of connection to external USB devices after sleep is not uncommon and does not only affect audio devices.
I will concur with the wise guidance posted above by our fellow user, den.thed.
Sleep deprivation seems to be a key remedy for this affliction.
Snapshot of your Energy Savings settings please? Are you manually sleeping your Mac?
So,
I had issues with the M2 ports, so much so that they are replacing them.
I also apparently had an issue with the Logic board. I believe there could be an issue with bad ports on the new Mac M2 which I have returned. This was a "custom" configured Mac and they tell me this doesn't happen very often.*
If you are having issues with "ports"(thunderbolt and usb) not being recognized you might have bad ports.
Just something to think about before you spend your time troubleshooting an issue that could be hardware related.
Good Luck!
Thank you, D.I. Johnson and den.thed. Will deactivate automatic sleep.
Uncheck Wake, should fix. Also, you gain nothing by Sleeping except invite mystery problems, avoid.
We are just Apple product users, same as you.
To present a request to Apple, you can contact Apple Support and/or send Feedback.
No, use freely. This is a Sleep-triggered problem that manifests itself across a wide variety of externals. Good news is that Sleep is a hangover from the past, it’s totally unnecessary today. You’re good 👍
Anyone can reproduce this with different USB devices? Maybe this happens with audio devices only?
Sleep is unnecessary and should be disabled. Shut for long absences/idle overnights (i.e. do not manual-sleep), and for regular operation, use the settings exactly as shown below, should fix.
So it’s not a Sleep issue after all. I would start a fresh discussion with details of your setup and/or contact the manufacturer of your audio device.
Did this solve your problem? I was using a M1 Pro MacBook Pro in clamshell mode and was having this issue every so often. Got tired of it and got a M2 Mac mini to replace it and now the problem is even worse... I have auto sleep turned off and the issue still persist as of now. The only remedy is a restart and doing that each time is becoming annoying... Anything helps
I tried that before, and in fact I won't lose the connection to the interface in that case. But I still want the Mac Mini to sleep.
You're welcome.
