I'm gone through several sets of wired speakers with my Mac Studio, all of them lose connection from time to time, requiring me to unplug/re-plug to get them to wake up. Is this a known issue with the Studio, or are there some speakers that reliably work well with it?

Could very well be auto or manual computer sleep, that hcsitas mentioned in your other thread.
The latest macOS versions have various issues with auto and manual computer sleep mode.
Some systems crash and force a restart, while others wake with odd anomalies.
As a test:
Turn on "Prevent automatic sleeping when display is off" and only allowing the display to turn off.
Then just leave the Mac on with display off and shut down for longer periods of non-use.

Are the wired speakers actually loosing connection or is the audio output switching to another output source...?

Nope, the sound panel still shows them as the selection. It's like when the computer goes to sleep and then wakes, it doesn't send a signal make thru the mic port to awaken the externals.

If your Sounds output holds, then the only reason to replace the wired Logi S-00167 speakers, is to get a better system.
