MacBook Pro 2015 retina / Monterey 12.7.4 - battery optimisation

MacBook Pro 2015 retina - turn off battery optimisation is not an option in the battery preferences in Monterey 12.7.4. Neither do i have the option to override the charging, so that i can get the battery to climb to 100%. It is clear that the optimisation is enabled by default by looking at successive charge history, rapid climb all the way up to 80% but then tails off and remains there.

I cannot see any way to disable/override it and whilst i know why optimisation is there, i would like to override this one time in order to correctly calibrate the new battery i have installed.

Can anyone help me with this? It seems that the override feature has been forgotten by Apple in this combo of device model and OS version and i'm a bit stuck. The option to override in the menu bar battery icon is also not available

Many thanks

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.7

Hi
thanks for replying. I neglected to say in my initial post that i have been through every published workaround i can find on the internet, to no avail. Resetting SMC, Different 85W chargers etc - all same result. Charging tops out at 80% ish and there seems no way to override the behavior in this combo of OS and Hardware

That is definitely details you should have provided so we don't rehash what has already been tried.

Have you tried my suggestion to disconnect the charging cable from the laptop for a moment & reattaching it? Like I said, I did see something similar on older laptops running older versions of macOS where they tended to stop charging somewhat regularly, but I believe it was almost always at 71%. However, maybe newer hardware, software, and firmware could have changed this somewhat....perhaps like you were surmising since it matches the 80% mark utilized by the later USB-C laptops for Optimized Charging. It still may be the same "bug" I noticed years ago. I never tried to look into the issue to see if I could determine if it was due to the battery itself or macOS.

The cynic in me would say this is by design but i am hoping its an oversight that just hasnt been addressed

Thanks
