using a shell case on mac air m2

i’ve heard putting a shell case on a mac air m2 can make it overheat but i want to protect my midnight colour from chipping, can i put the shell vase only on the top? will this reduce the problem? instead of putting it on the keyboard side of the mac just put on the screen side if that makes sense, on the outside.

Will my clear shell case affect the hinge in my M2 MacBook Air? I recently purchased a clear shell plastic case for my MacBook and in order for it to stay attached it hooks onto the screen from the top and the body of the laptop from below. Because of this the laptop does not fully close when the lid is put down. The gap is less than a millimeter. Will this affect the hinge or any other parts of the MacBook or can I continue using this case?

My best advice is to get a sleeve for your MacBook Air, rather than a clamshell skin. The heat vents are between the display and base, and aren't very big. The clamshells I've seen can block varying amounts of heat from escaping, and thus reduce your Mac's life span.
