can't control volume of a bluetooth speaker after update to Sonoma 14.4

Same issue with latest Sonoma release - 14.4.1. I cannot control bluetooth speaker volume from my computer (16" M1 Pro MacBook Pro) and there are strange audio sounds, which sound like clipping and other artifacts, when using a bluetooth speaker. All other bluetooth accessories seem to work fine. This is a very annoying issue and renders bluetooth speakers essentially useless.

I had the same issue, but it started working after I reset the Bluetooth module.

Here's what I did:

1. Reset the Bluetooth module.
2. Restart the Mac.
3. Forget the Bluetooth device.
4. Reconnect the Bluetooth device.

Same problem here. I'm on Sonoma 14.6, but I had since the very first Sonoma release.

Of course I reset bluetooth, disasociated the devices etc.. all the stuff.

And of course it didn't fix by itself as other people was saying...

I cannot change the volume.. the volume bar appears on screen, the dots go up and down but it doesn't correspond to a volume change.

With the exception of mute (or volume 0). It works.

It started working finally. I did those steps:

1. Update to Sonoma 14.5.
2. Forget the Bluetooth device.
3. Reset the Bluetooth module.
4. Restart the Mac.
5. Reconnect the Bluetooth device.

I updated. No improvement.

I Had the beforementioned issue since Sonoma 14.4 Update. Updated to 14.5, but no differrence on the Bluetooth topic. Tried those Steps in the exact same order on the affected device and it solved the issue.

Wow. What an absolute shock that apple has taken the most basic of features and effed it up in ways which seem impossible until you encounter them. Thank you apple, for allowing me to pay a premium for your garbage software and hardware. Whoever is making development decisions at Apple is crushing and should be promoted.

You are always free sell your Apple gear and buy something else if this is the way you feel. But have you even attempted to resolve the issue using the suggestions posted?

So Sonoma 14.5 was released a couple of days ago. Have any of you updated yet?

@achromik, thanks for the update and using the oldest electronic troubleshooting technique in the book. Unplug the darn thing, wait a minute, plug it back in. That’s exactly what you did in effect.
