MacBook Pro 2021 16" M1 chip: how do I disable auto turn-on? When I got my machine in 2021, I was rather horrified to discover (after owning numerous other top-end MacBooks) that one could no longer TURN THE BLOODY THING OFF. Like, OFF off. So that I could clean the screen or the keyboard without the SLIGHTEST BRUSH of a cloth or (heavens forbid!) a finger lighting the whole thing up again. This is a Very Bad Idea that somehow has been incorporated into a whole generation of MacBooks. The best way to clean the screen is when it's off, dark, black. And how is it practical to clean the keyboard when, just to brush crumbs out or remove finger oil, you're setting off a wild and random string of text entries, inadvertent keyboard commands, etc? REALLY? I went to Apple Support, talked on the phone, etc, only to be told that there was no way to disable this glitch. Not even a "visit the Terminal, and as a neophyte to coding, enter a complex series of characters, then it'll behave" work-around. The good old days when every boneheaded thing that happened by chance or less-than-perfect prediction, and Apple would say, "Oops, our bad, until we get a fix out, here's what you can do" have apparently been replaced with a hubris that just turns its back on horrific user interface issues and points to "Yes, but LOOK, the machine's SO Fast. And, SHINEY! Which indeed it is. But how do you turn it off? So that a passing butterfly can't start it up? I've seen that along the road, others have mentioned this-but those threads are DEAD. Whither now?

Please start from the beginning and describe what it is you want to do. How to clean your Apple products - Apple Support describes how to properly clean or disinfect a Mac. If that's what you want to do, there are ways to clean your keyboard without disabling anything.
