I love my Macbook Pro, but my iMac is very very slow. What are the best steps to rectify this? I'm currently still running Mojave, because I'm afraid that a larger operating system may slow it even more. This is what I have:
There is a big difference in those two Mac's.
The MacBook Pro has a faster CPU and an internal SSD.
The base model 21.5" iMac has an i3 CPU and a really slow 5400 rpm internal HDD.
If you had purchased the 21.5" model with the CPU and SSD upgrades, then you would not notice any difference.
One thing that would help speed up the 2019 21.5" iMac, is to get and run it from an External SSD.

I'd suggest running an application called Etrecheck and posting the report it generates here. We can examine it and see if there's anything known to create issues like yours. This app is benign and won't reveal any private information. This little program has helped a lot of folks get their Macs back to running normally. (It won't actually change anything on your Mac, but its report can help us let you know the changes we'd recommend).
The iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019) came with one of the following drives:
The Core i3 is a low-end processor, but if you have either the hard drive, or the Fusion Drive – as seems likely – odds are that the biggest performance bottleneck in your system is the internal drive.
That machine has four USB-A (USB 3.0) ports and two USB-C (USB, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt) ports, so if you wanted to get an external SSD and use it as your startup drive, you'd have a wide range of choices in SSDs.
I wonder if it is possible to have a remote session with Apple support, so they can see into my disk, without me having to drag the computer in to them. I fear I may be beyond the time limit of the Apple Care I purchased. Is ther e any time limit on Apple support?
