Xcode extract on external hard drive

Hi there, I downloaded Xcode on my external SSD as I do not have enough internal storage. When I try to expand the .xip file on the external SSD it starts to expand on the local hard drive. Is there a way for the file to expand on the external SSD rather than on the local hard drive?

Not enough storage to download Xcode I wanted to download Xcode on my MacBook Pro but no matter how much I delete, I don't have enough storage for the app. My MacBook has 120gb, less than 30gb of that includes all my files, applications, pictures etc, 12gb is under "Other" and a huge 50gb is under "System Data". How to transfer IOS files from Mac to UBS disk? I'd like to transfer a IOS files from my MacPro to an external disk, as I am running of disk space in my MacPro. I have attached an external disk to transfer out the IOS file, but was not able to do so. My only alternative is to "delete". But I do not wish to delete this IOS backup file, but transfer out of my computer? Is there any way?
