Shared albums act like digital scrapbooks you create with friends and family.

There are two main types:

  • Albums you create: These albums function like extensions of your personal Photos library. You can add photos and videos already present in your library, and any changes you make in the shared album (like adding captions) are reflected in your main library.
  • Albums created by others: When someone invites you to a shared album, you can view and sometimes even add your own photos and videos. However, the content is ultimately controlled by the person who created the album. If they decide to stop sharing the album, it disappears from your view entirely.

This two-way approach ensures a few key benefits:

  • Synchronization: Everything in your created shared albums stays up-to-date because it reflects your main library.
  • Control: People who create albums have the power to decide who sees them and for how long.
  • Seamless experience: Adding photos to albums you create feels just like adding them to your regular library.

In short, shared albums offer a way to collaborate and share photos with loved ones, while maintaining control over your own content.
