How to unsubscribe from following some community helpers

My Mac email became overwhelmed when I clicked follow on several community helpers. How do I undo this?

You have two options:

  • When you receive a notification for a community member you are following, go to the discussion, then click the name of the member to open the profile of the member and there click the "following" button in the upper right corner to unsubscribe for this person.
  • Or, open the preferences for your own profile and disable all notifications summarily:
    • Click your avatar in the upper right corner, then click "Preferences", and in the section "Messages from Apple" remove the checkmark for "following". Now you will no longer receive any messages for content that you are following. You will only be seeing it in My Subscriptions.

The second suggestion seems to have worked. I couldn't see the "following" button in the upper right corner to unsubscribe from individual people. Sometimes, I have trouble "seeing" specific items until I scan several times; sometimes, my open page looks different than what the helper describes. So, I won't say the suggestion didn't work because it might be my problem not "seeing" something. Thanks!

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm unsure what you mean by "go into the thread." I looked at a recent question, scrolled to "view the full discussion," and clicked on it. I saw the bell icon. It was hollow looking inside. I hovered over it; the message above said "Subscribe." I clicked on the hollow bell icon. I became solid blue, and the message said, "Subscribe." So, I clicked it again to turn it how. Thanks for your offer of help. The second suggestion from léonie seems to have worked. Hoping it did! I was so overwhelmed with all the questions that I missed my regular emails. Cheers!
