Replace cracked screen on I pad gen 9

Best Buy doesn’t have capability and Apple wants $250.00 if I mail it in. Has anyone had experience in replacing screens? I might try replacing it myself

iPad Air 2, iPadOS 15

Your iPad has no user serviceable parts. Be aware that Apple does not supply genuine/OEM parts outside of its network of Apple Authorised Service Providers (AASPs) - and will not supply iPad components for self install.

As such, any parts that you are able to acquire will either be second-hand parts scavenged from broken devices, or third-party components that may not work properly with your iPad. Many components are serialised - and require Apple-proprietary software to properly integrate and calibrate replacement parts. Be aware that third-party screens are known to disable TouchID and FaceID hardware.

Entrusting a repair to Apple or an AASP ensures that a repair will use genuine parts and will be completed to Apple standards. The repair will also carry a warranty.

For practical purposes, in lieu of repairing and returning your own iPad, Apple usually exchange the iPad for a renewed/refurbished iPad of the same model and specification. The exchange device will benefit from a new battery. The cost of the exchange is the same as would otherwise be charged for repair.
