Call history and voicemails gone after update to iOS 17.4

Last night I installed the latest iOS update 17.4..Today I noticed my Call History & Voicemail messages are gone…I’ve read some old threads from last year regarding this same issue. As of today 3/13/24, what has been done to rectify this issue? What’s the fix? I’m praying there’s a fix, because there were some saved voicemail messages from my late Husband. As well other messages of great importance.

I had the same issue after updating to OS 17.51 - all old voice mails disappeared.

Contacted Apple tech support, and here's what they recommended:

"Let's try to reset network settings on your device so please Tap Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Resetting network settings resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, as well as cellular and VPN settings that the customer has used before."

This restored my old VM's that were previously missing. Hard reset my phone 2x, that did not help.

Verizon is our carrier and they do not allow you to see/view/hear voice messages. My phone was also backed up via iCloud, bit VM's not stored there.

Good luck.

Log in to your carrier’s voicemail server and see if the messages are still there. You can check your carrier’s instructions, but you can usually do this by either holding the “1” button in the Phone app keypad or calling your own number. You will need to know your voicemail passcode.

If they are you now have to get them to sync to your phone. Restart your phone, make sure you have Cellular Data turned on, then tap Phone and Voicemail.

OK, so the voicemails are safe, just not syncing to your phone.

If you open the Phone app and tap Voicemail, what do you see? An empty list, or a link to call the voicemail server?

Troubleshooting (check after each step):

  • Go to Settings/Cellular and make sure it is on
  • Also check that it is on for Phone
  • Go to Settings/Phone/Live Voicemail and turn it off
  • Go to Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN - if you see a VPN profile, delete it

Let us know the results.

Good morning. When I open the phone app, I see an empty list . Prior to posting, I’d already turned off Live VM..

When I did this step:

  • Go to Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN - if you see a VPN profile, delete it

It says:

VPN & Device Management

I clicked on it:

VPN Not connected

I clicked on it:

Add VPN Configuration

I stopped at that point..
