USB drives suddenly only allowing read access

My macbook air is suddenly only allowing read access on my 2 usb drives.

They work fine on another macbook device.

I've looked at other answers and it's not an issue with the usb drive permissions.

Disk utility also won't allow me to erase or run first aid - it keeps giving an error

Remove everything else connected external, hubs and cables and all, and try connecting one of the problematic storage devices directly, and with a known-good USB cable.

Failing that, please post an EtreCheck report

What file system is on these two USB drives? macOS is only able to read NTFS drives by default.

Also, what is the exact model of this laptop and version of macOS? You can get this information by clicking the Apple menu and selecting "About This Mac". This is information that is almost always needed when asking for assistance online.

What type of drives are these (exact make & models)?
