Should I keep my MacBook Air unplugged, and only charge when the battery is low to maximize its lifespan?

I think an Apple store employee told me I shouldn't keep my laptop plugged in all the time because it would shorten the battery lifespan. Is that correct?

MacBook Air, macOS 14.2

General rule is, use the computer plugged into charger whenever possible

Use the computer on Battery Power when electrical supplies are not available

Apple Computer will not Over Charge themselves

They will just Stop charging the battery.
