logging out failed error on migration assistant
I am trying to migrate from my 2019 macbook air running Sonoma 14.2.1 to 2022 Macbook Air running Sonoma 14.2 but keep getting a "logging out failed" error on my old macbook air

I'd try booting your old Mac into Safe Mode, as that seems to clear up weird things (and does some drive maintenance as well). Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support
Let it sit in Safe Mode for about 5-10 minutes to give it time to do its thing.
Then reboot normally, and try again.
