Why is it so difficult to view pins or favourites on Apple Maps

I drop a pin in a place of interest, add it to my favourites and a guide, then when I view the map at a later date, can I see the pin? No! I have to select the guide, select the pin and navigate to it to make it reappear, which is not what I want to do.

Why can’t Apple Maps just show pins and favourites like Google Maps does?

Note, I am only using Apple Maps because it’s accurate in China whereas Apple Maps can’t decrypt the Chinese location scrambler, so all locations are between 50 and 500 metres out.
