Tractor,

Put the songs into your Music library on the Mac, and then sync the phone to the Mac. Since you don't have a subscription, you can use direct syncing by connecting temporarily via USB:

Ok many thanks for this.
But
All my ripped cd's are in
ITunes/ITunesMusic/music
How do i move them to
music/Music Library.musiclibrary

I think before i do this i should complete clean music of all music/files to i can start afresh
as most of the junk is the childrens music.

Jem,

You don't need to move them. Trash the ones you no longer want, and add the rest to your library: Import music from a computer to Music on Mac - Apple Support

Once they are all in your Music library you can sync your phone.

(When you are done, if the files are too scattered you can clean up with the Consolidate command.)

It worked perfectly.

Next question;
can i still upload new CD's to my Music on my Mac and then sync?

Jem,

Yes. The process of ripping a CD has hardly changed since "back in the day" (except for the fact that nowadays very few computers have built-in CD drive, so you have to hook up an external drive). See details in here: Import songs from CDs into Music on Mac - Apple Support

Ripping a CD adds the tracks to your library. After they are in the library, you can sync the device. Since you don't have a subscription, syncing will be done the "old fashioned" way, by temporarily connecting the phone to the computer via USB.

Jem,

The best way is to get the Mac Music library the way you want it. Delete old songs that you no longer want, and add anything you want that isn't already there. Then do the sync. The sync will remove files from the iPad that are not existing in the library.

Before you do anything, make a backup separately. It is easy to mess up on these big rearrangements and discover that you deleted stuff you actually wanted.
