How do I know if my Apple ID has been compromised?

I got an announcement saying I needed to get a certain software to avoid being hacked. Can you check on that. Did it come from Apple?

Apple never does messages like that. That message was 100% a phishing scam. Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support

No it did not come from Apple. Just one of the many scams you will see as email, message, or pop up from a website. Don't click any links or provide any personal information and continue on with your day. You have nothing to worry about.
