Message App Running on Background

I don't use the Message app (I even have it "not allowed" on screen time), and yet, I find it is being used on background (for instance, it seems that it was already used for 1 minute today; 1 minute on screen which my be my checking for activity, and 1 minute on background). I also have the background setting not allowing background use. What is happening? Maybe iphones allows nearby iphones to use others people' imessages or messages apps to communicate covertly ? Just wondering...

Are you logged into Facetime? If so, Messages needs to periodically send an authorization message. There may well be other maintenance things it neds to do as well. 2 minutes should not significantly affect your battery.

Um, no.

• I found this on google and u think that it would help “You can turn iMessage apps on or off by going to Settings > Messages > iMessage Apps.
• You can also turn off background app refresh for individual apps by going to Settings > General > Background App Refresh.”

That is partly true (but wrong in details), but irrelevant to the problem reported in this thread.

  • There is no such setting as Settings > Messages > iMessage Apps. If you try to go to it you would see that immediately.
  • Background App Refresh doesn’t have any effect on event-driven apps such as Messages, because they don’t use background processing.

Nop... not logged in. I do, occasionally, find that the imessage turns on by itself, and then I turn off. One more detail: I, most days, have my iphone not logged to my apple account, and so I don't see why my imessages, messages, and the facetime settings change (other than when I reset the phone). Anyway, thanks for responding to my question.
