Apple Carplay won’t allow calls to be made
We bought a 2024 Tahoe, paired my phone with the CarPlay, and we get a message saying we can’t make calls when Apple CarPlay is active.

How are you trying to initiate the call? I don't know about the Tahoe, but some newer vehicles I've been in require you to hold down the voice button on the steering wheel for a few seconds to invoke Siri to give commands to CarPlay. A quick press and release of the button will invoke the head unit's voice command system by default. It may not be able to process calls when using CarPlay. You have to invoke Siri to do that.
If that's not what you mean, you need to explain exactly what you're doing.
