Printing (2) A4 pages on A5 paper

I've designed my book to be A5 size, now I'd like to do a sample print to see how the pages will look. What settings do I use to get (2) A5 pages, side by side, on an A4 size piece of paper.

It looked so good in the Printer dialog window but you are it doesn't work.

I managed by first Make sure that all setting in the printer dialog didn't shrink the pages.
Then I printed to PDF.
Opened the doc in Preview and started the printing dialog. Here I went through all settings to make sure that nothing would shrink which also Preview wanted too.
Now I could print and it looked perfect in my eyes.

It must be something wrong when it looks good in the printer dialog window but it doesn't print it like that.

Here are some images.

This one is from Pages print window. Use the PDF button when you have set all settings.

Now open the saved PDF in Preview. This is the first place to set settings.

And here is the second place to set the settings. Now you can click the Print button. Try first to just print one page to make sure it works.

Thank you for the illustrations - I'm still struggling. I am following what you said, but shouldn't I indicate 2 images per page? How does the program know that I want to print (2) A5 up? Also - it didn't give me the A4 borderless option. Also, I can open PDF in Preview, you mentioned saved PDF - which means I have to save the PDF to a location. Still working on it...

Yes, I didn't take a screen shot of that one. In that window you only set 2 pages on 1 sheet.

The program knows that you have A5 pages in Pages, right?

Maybe your printer don't have a A4 borderless option.

You always have to save documents to a location. When testing things like this I save it to the Desktop which make it easier to find and delete. If I want to keep the document for a longer time I put it in a folder somewhere logical to me.

Yes, I used 2 up on a page. Yes, the program knows I want A5. A4 borderless option is not possible (I tried,it rejected it). Its still not happening - and there are so many steps here, I'm not sure which one is not responding. Once I printed, and the lettering was huge, second time - too small. Not once was I able to get it exactly to A5 size. I'm running out of hope. Can you read my frustration/tears???
