Well, for the past ten days I ran a test. I removed my device from iCloud to see how long the battery would last. Without iCloud, I was easily able to get four days of battery life.
This is great for the device being my main music player however, now that I’ve turned iCloud back on, the Home app is informing me the phone is no longer supported. So, I’ve all but bricked a device I was using every day for the past eight+ years just by signing out and signing into iCloud.
I can not begin to express how frustrating and problematic this is. This is going to cost me thousands of dollars to replace my existing lighting system so it doesn’t rely on Apple HomeKit, just because I signed out of iCloud to test battery life on a phone.
Thanks Apple. You’re further enforcing my disconnection from modern technology that relies on the whims of executives and app developers without any consideration for the customers who use your products.
