The self-service SOI removal tool was retired some time ago. Hide the item from your purchase history (see Hide and unhide music, movies, and more - Apple Support) and remove any remaining downloads from your library. If you really want the album removed from the purchase history too reach out to Official Apple Support.

If the music will not go away, one option is to untick (uncheck) the songs in your library. Unticked songs do not get played in iTunes unless you specifically select them and if synchronising your library to a device, the option to Sync only ticked (checked) songs and videos will prevent them from being added to your device.

I realise that this is a workaround and should not be necessary. But such is the vanity of the band and the naivety of Apple, that neither of them realises that not everyone likes U2 (myself included). Given that it simply isn't possible that every U2 fan is an Apple user, the non-Apple U2 fans must be very annoyed that U2 didn't give them a copy of the album for free. I'd be extremely annoyed.

So:

    • Apple has annoyed non-U2 fans with their insistence on forcing the album on them (and yours is not the first post we've seen on this subject)
    • U2 has annoyed any non-Apple fan of the band because some fans got a free copy, while others did not
    • it's not the way to encourage consumer acceptance, but it will possibly cause some fans to resort to "unapproved methods" of obtaining the album at the same cost as Apple users (i.e. zero cost)

It should be an object lesson on all business training courses in how not to do things.
