I have a black screen, but, the hooked up to a tv thru thunderbolt/hdmi I can use the computer

15" MacBook Pro 2017. black /blue tint screen... when on.. but, when I hooked up a thunderbolt to HDMI to my TV . I can use my laptop.. ???? So I believe its a hardware issue and not software issue?

I assume your MacBook Pro has back light issue. Try to check your MacBook Pro with Apple Diagnostics if it reports LCD related error.

Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

If it doesn't help, you'd better contact Apple Support or take your MacBook Pro to your local retail Apple Store, Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider to be examined your MacBook Pro there.
