Space bar inconsistent in working or not working—New iMac M3 with Sonoma

When I create a new event in Calendar, the space bar does not work while titling the event, nor does the tab button advance the cursor to the next available info to be inserted or edited, such as hour, minute, am/pm. The space bar also does not consistently work when writing an email. Instead, in Calendar, depressing the space bar highlights with a heavily lined box the slot you are trying to fill out, or, in Mail, while forwarding or answering an email, highlights with a heavily lined box the next item down if it's an inserted image like a logo. The space bar also does not stop the music or sound from playing whether I am in Music, or on YouTube, or seeing a video on Safari.

Thinking my Wacom Intuous2 tablet and all its software might be the problem I removed it from the MacM3, and restarted, but that didn't change anything.

What is going on with my space bar? Anyone have any ideas on how to make it stop?

Thanks

iMac 24″, macOS 14.3

Go to Apple > System Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard > Turn Off Full Keyboard Access and test.
