What do you do when you have your MacBook Air locked by a scam that says Microsoft has locked your computer and to call a number?

Do NOT call the number. This is a total scam to try to get information from you.


What have you tried, so far yourself, to regain access to this computer? What exactly do you mean that it is locked?


Have you tried starting it up in Safe Mode?

Good, I'm glad you didn't respond to this scam.


I do suggest that you, as a minimum, you do the following:

  • Change your Apple ID password.
  • Be sure to update your Mac to the latest version of macOS. These include security updates.
  • Completely uninstall any "cleaner" or Ant-Virus apps from your Mac. Examples of these are CleanMyMac & Norton AV. Your Mac already has excellent anti-virus/anti-malware protection built into its operating system.
