Over and over again my comments on threads, and other people's as well it seems, are listed out of time order. Is there a reason for this?

The comments are showing persistently out of order.

Apparently the default sort order is "best" (who knows how that is calculated) rather than "oldest" (i.e. how every other forum on the entire planet orders the comments, in time order). So there is no way to follow the conversation in the default sort order. It's a seemingly random jumble of comments.

You can change that in your preferences.
Be aware that, even though your have your prefs set to oldest, the forum software may ignore it. I have my so set, but I see several threads a day that automatically show "Best" first.
The system is fairly new and that may be a bug. 🐜
