iCloud Drive

I would like to turn off iCloud Drive, but I get the message that if I turn off iCloud Drive, all the files will be deleted off my MacBook Pro. WHY??? I had those files on my MacBook Pro, BEFORE I turned on iCloud Drive. APPLE... you are turning into Microsoft.

Why does Apple make is so very hard just to turn off the iCloud Drive? When the files were on my Mac FIRST, prior to using iCloud Drive, why do I have to find a place, such as a back-up hard drive, or my documents folder or some other location, to put these files, and how can I be one hundred percent sure that the iCloud Drive is not smart enough to search my Mac and remove them all from everywhere?

This is so very frustrating. This is the same nonsense that I had with my music on my iPhone. It decided that all of the music from CD's that I paid full price for in a store, should not be on my iPhone.

This is so very frustrating. I plan on purchasing another laptop and not connecting to any Cloud anywhere.

The following from Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive - Apple Support may help:

What happens when you turn off iCloud Drive or sign out of iCloud

If you turn off iCloud Drive or sign out of iCloud, a new Desktop and Documents folder is created in your home folder. You also have the option to keep a local copy of your files that are in iCloud Drive. If you keep a local copy of your files in iCloud Drive, they're copied to a folder called iCloud Drive (Archive) in your home folder. You can move any files that were in your iCloud Desktop and Documents to your new local Desktop and Documents.
