Are You Wondering Why A Ghost Image Of Your Keyboard Is Burned Into Your iPhone Screen, And Can’t Find Info On It? Keep Reading
The past week or so I’ve *kinda* noticed a faint ghostlike image of my keyboard, on blank pages-BEFORE actually pulling up my kb to type.
It only sort of registered because I’m busy.
Then I was examining photos for work and noticed they didn’t seem crisp…
On closer inspection the freaking keyboard is visible on every photo, in fact even visible on lock screen.
I’ve been researching it, and it’s very hard to find info! Whether intentional or not, it’s buried.
People have complained in this community, since apparently release of the X.
Apple changed the type of screen used starting with the iPhone X
However there were no real solutions. Things like restart, you know-the usual.
Finally I found something.
The tech I chatted with didn’t know this, but I discovered it somewhere (in the manual?) in an article here.
About the Super Retina display and Super Retina XDR display on your iPhone - Apple Support
Apparently because the screen is a *retina sensitive OLED blah blah blah screen* which is amazing for crisp beautiful images, BUT-(btw) can burn an image into the screen if the image is on for a long time, and if the brightness is *too* high.
First of all-too high? Should that be printed on the right side of the brightness slider? High, and then Too High?
It said keeping Auto brightness turned on can help this-not to happen.
Which I don’t use, because when auto brightness is on my phone spontaneously dims a lot, making the display too dark.
This isn’t explained as any kind of warning, it’s said casually in a chapter touting how great this particular new screen is!
The danger of screen burn isn’t highly publicized, in fact where it’s mentioned, it’s not printed as a caution, just a btw.
The only warning about auto brightness I’ve ever seen over and over is-it saves battery life. Never have I seen it can save your display.
Its absurd and I’m furious!
I have this burn now.
My dear darling (I honestly ♥️ you) iPhone makers…really?
NATURALLY the keyboard image will be on for a long time if you compose lots of notes, emails, or are a writer!!
When I write an article I can have the keyboard up for 1 or 2 hours! It’s called working!
Apple should at least warn us while we’re tapping away on the keyboard, "Caution, keeping your keyboard on for an extended period can burn its image into your screen”
But of course they wouldn’t do that because many MANY people use their phones to write! And write and write and write.
That caution would be like saying you have a "not very smart” smart phone.
Instead it’s casually mentioned in a happy-What a wonderful new retina screen you have!-article. That nobody reads.
We read warnings.
Now let’s see if they replace my phone. Or fix it. Something.
Let’s see if you even get to see this. Is this community a democracy?
Anyway, this is just to help you solve why the above might be happening! I did not see a clearly explained lay person comment anywhere so…cheers!
*The included pic is one iphone photographing another-too bright to see what I’m describing, I had to reduce the brightness to show what I see
ALSO even though very faint, I blocked out the text body in case of possible text disclosing personal info
